Alabama lunch lady Amy Wigginton confessed to sexual encounters with a teenage student at her home. Arrested and facing charges of a school employee engaging in a sex act, her case follows a similar Illinois teacher's arrest.

Local news outlets have reported that a married Alabama woman who worked as a lunch lady has confessed to engaging in sexual encounters with a teenage student at her home on two occasions.
Court documents reviewed by WAAY TV identify the woman as Amy Nicole Wigginton, a 41-year-old employee of Lauderdale County Schools, who admitted to the incidents with a male student under the age of 19 on March 7th and March 31st.

The Daily Mail reports that Amy Nicole Wigginton, a married woman with children, allegedly brought the young male student to her family home in Rogersville for the sexual encounters. Authorities have not disclosed the student's name or age. Despite confessing to the sexual activity and waiving her rights, according to court documents, Wigginton has not been charged with having sex with a minor.
She faces two counts of a school employee engaging in a sex act, the court docs indicated. The age of consent in Alabama is 16 years old.
According to the documents, she waived her rights and confessed to having sexual intercourse with the student on two separate occasions.
Amy Nicole Wigginton was arrested on Friday and booked at the Lauderdale County Jail. She is being held on $100,000 bond, WAFF reported.
The Lauderdale County Schools System released the statement in response to the arrest: “The Lauderdale County Board of Education is aware of the allegations, and the employee has been placed on administrative leave. We will continue to cooperate with law enforcement officials, and have no further comment on this matter.”
Wigginton's arrest follows closely after the widely reported case of Christina Formella, a married special education teacher in Illinois accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old male student. Formella was arrested on March 16th, and video footage of her emotional breakdown upon hearing the charges against her recently went viral.
