Android 15 could finally help us tackle the big malware problem

Android 15 is already out as a public beta for testers and some interesting features are being previewed that could make the OS safer for millions.

Android 15 version will be detailed at the Google I/O 2024 next month but the new beta version tells us what all Android users can expect from the new versions this year. Android malware is a big problem that Google claims to have worked on and fixed in most cases but the cases that we come across often suggests the issue has not been completely resolved.

Android 15 could be a step in the right direction for the company, where it seems Android users will have the benefit of quarantining apps that your phone can perceive to be dangerous.

The details of this upcoming feature has been spotted in the code strings of the latest Android 15 beta version, where you can spot the Quarantine Apps permission toggle which is likely to be part of the Apps settings on Android 15. It is interesting to see Android 15 working on a feature to block users from accessing apps that may be malicious.

Google already has a feature that blocks apps from throwing notifications and it is likely that the quarantine section could be another version of this feature to stop you from using the supposedly dangerous apps on the phone.

We still don’t know how Google is able to detect the nature of the apps, and there is a good chance that some innocent apps might get trapped in this section.

Having said that, Google should at least inform the user about the dangerous apps and give them the option to remove them from the quarantine list from the settings, which it seems to have baked into the feature.

The report is also making it clear that quarantine apps are being worked on but it is not certain that Android 15 will see its official release which we will know in the next few weeks at the big developer preview of the Android 15 version coming out with the new Pixel phones later this year.
