Trinamool Congress distanced itself from Anubrata Mondal’s “unacceptable abusive language" used during a viral audio clip with a West Bengal police official and instructed him to tender an unconditional apology within hours, failing to do so would initiate show cause proceedings against him.
“The party unequivocally disassociates and does not endorse the comments made by Anubrata Mondal against a police officer. We strongly condemn his use of derogatory & unacceptable abusive language. The party hereby instructs him to tender an unconditional apology within the next four hours, failing which show cause proceedings will be initiated," TMC posted on X.
This comes shortly after the Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday launched a stinging attack on the ruling Trinamool Congress after a purported viral audio clip showed Mondal allegedly threatening a police official over the phone.
After the clip went viral, a case was registered against the TMC leader, who is also a former Birbhum president of the party.
Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, alleged that such “anti-social goons" are protected under the Mamata Banerjee government.
“Just listening to this viral phone conversation makes it clear how dangerous anti-social goons are being carefully protected under the loving cover of the state’s powerful and unchallengeable Chief Minister." “The so-called ‘tiger with its skin peeled from Birbhum’, who reportedly suffers from occasional lack of oxygen to the brain — listen to the language he uses while speaking to a police officer!" he posted on X, while sharing the purported audio clip.

“And what impact will this conversation have on the administration now that it’s out in public? At most, within 48 hours, either that officer will be ‘closed’ (suspended) or transferred to the Sundarbans," he added.
The BJP leader demanded an immediate investigation into the matter.
BJP IT cell chief, Amit Malviya, lashed out at Mamata Banerjee over “lawlessness" in the state and said that the audio clip is an evidence that women are not safe in Bengal.
“A TMC leader, under the very nose of a woman Chief Minister, threatens a police officer with the rape of his mother and wife. This is the real face of TMC — emboldened, lawless, and shameless. If this is how they treat a police officer, imagine the plight of ordinary citizens. This unfailingly proves that women are not safe in West Bengal — not under TMC’s watch," he said on X.
