BJP candidate from New Delhi Assembly constituency Parvesh Verma has hit back at opponent Arvind Kejriwal after the AAP chief alleged irregularities in the voter list.
Verma said that Kejriwal, sensing defeat, has resorted to baseless accusations and diversionary tactics.
BJP Hits Back At Kejriwal
“Over the past five years, the number of voters in the New Delhi constituency has dropped from 1,46,000 to 1,04,000. This means 40,000 voters have been removed from the list. A total of 61,000 votes were deleted, while only 22,000 new voters were added. On average, 1,000 votes were removed from the list every month," Verma said.
He took a dig at Kejriwal and said that the former Delhi Chief Minister will soon start blaming EVMs for his defeat in the polls.
“Kejriwal is scared. The fear of losing has gripped him. That’s why he is now using the voter list issue as an excuse. Soon, he will start blaming EVMs for his defeat," he said.
“It is clear that Kejriwal is aware of his declining popularity. His hold over the voters in this area has weakened, and to divert attention, he is making baseless accusations. The people of New Delhi are smart and will not be misled by such claims," he added.
What Had Kejriwal Said?
Kejriwal and Atishi met the Election Commissioners on Thursday and alleged that there is some “wrongdoing" in the voter lists.
“Our main issues were that 5,500 votes are ready to be removed in New Delhi Assembly constituency between December 15 and January 7. The total votes are 1 lakh, and 5.5 per cent have been listed to be removed in 22 days. Obviously, there is some wrongdoing," he told the reporters.
“All those, on whose names applications were filed to remove their votes, denied that they never filed any such application. This means there is a big fraud going on," he added.
Kejriwal alleged that the people from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar are being brought in to “create fake votes".
“We also told them that between Dec 15 and Jan 8, applications for 13,000 new votes have been filed in New Delhi… Obviously, they are bringing people from UP and Bihar to create fake votes," Kejriwal alleged.
