The campaigning for Maharashtra state legislative assembly and second phase of Jharkhand state legislative assembly elections are in full swing with the political parties trading barbs at each other over several issues. Maharashtra deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has asserted that the doors of BJP-led Mahayuti alliance have been closed for Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray.

Earlier on Thursday, accused the Congress party of being a pioneer in the politics of vote banks and also an enemy of the poor. He further targeted the Congress over the announcement by its leader from Jharkhand to give free cylinders to Rohingyas and Bangladeshis by playing a game with the country to get votes.

Meanwhile, taking a dig at the central investigative agencies, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Friday claimed that they were busy probing incidents like “chicken theft” while cases like the examination paper leaks in UP remain untouched at the behest of the BJP.

The key electoral contest in Maharashtra is between two alliances – ruling Mahayuti and Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). While the Mahayuti coalition comprises BJP, Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and the Ajit Pawar-led ist Congress Party (NCP) faction, the MVA is a coalition of the Congress, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), and NCP (Sharad Pawar).

Voting for the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly would be held in a single phase on November 20. Jharkhand concluded the first phase of Assembly elections, with polling held across 43 constituencies on November 13. Meanwhile, the second phase is scheduled for November 20 in the remaining 38 constituencies. The counting of votes for both the states will take place on November 23.
