The Bangladesh Army has carried out a significant reshuffle in its senior leadership soon after the new Prime Minister, Tarique Rahman’s election. The Army Headquarters issued an official order on Sunday afternoon, as reported by local media.

Lieutenant General Mainur Rahman has been appointed as the new Chief of General Staff (CGS). He previously served as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Army Training and Doctrine Command (ARTDOC).

In another key move, Lieutenant General S M Kamrul Hassan, who had been serving as Principal Staff Officer (PSO) of the Armed Forces Division, has been transferred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and posted as an ambassador. Major General Mir Mushfiqur Rahman, formerly the GOC of the 24th Infantry Division, will take over as the new Principal Staff Officer.

The reshuffle also includes changes at the divisional level. Major General J M Imdadul Islam has been moved from the 55th Infantry Division to the East Bengal Regimental Centre. Meanwhile, Major General Ferdous Hassan, who was serving as Commandant of the East Bengal Regimental Centre, has been appointed GOC of the 24th Infantry Division.

Additionally, Brigadier General Md Hafizur Rahman, previously posted at the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, has been promoted to the rank of Major General and appointed as the GOC of the 55th Infantry Division.

The appointments reflect a broad reorganisation of key operational and administrative posts within the Bangladesh Army.
