India on Tuesday said it will raise the matter with the Belgian government after a staffer at its embassy in Delhi allegedly put up a poster of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with the word “Wanted" in the Chanakyapuri area of the national capital.
The posters were seen on at least two electricity poles in the high-security diplomatic enclave. They featured a photo of Netanyahu with the word “Wanted" styled like a criminal notice. The incident happened last week.
The foreign national suspected of putting up the posters is employed at the Belgian Embassy in Delhi. He is currently under investigation by the Delhi Police, who have not yet revealed details of his actions, and his identity remains confidential.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said it is aware of the incident and will take up the issue with Belgium through official diplomatic channels. This response came after the Union Home Ministry was alerted by the Delhi Police.
To identify the person responsible for putting up the posters, Delhi Police had reviewed footage from at least 50 CCTV cameras in the area.
