Bihar Election Result 2025: Election strategist-turned-neta Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) has made a strong start with leads in three seats as counting began for the 2025 Bihar election on Friday morning. Exit polls had predicted that the party, which is contesting on 239 of the state’s 243 seats, would stay between 0 and 5 seats on its electoral debut.
The poll strategist—who played key roles in the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) 2014 campaign and later worked with parties such as the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), and the Congress—had presented Jan Suraaj as a fresh alternative to Bihar’s long-standing political landscape dominated by the Janata Dal (United), the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), and the BJP.
Kishor had stated that his party’s entry into the elections would create a triangular contest in the upcoming polls, adding that the public is seeking an alternative to both the Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the Mahagathbandhan.
He had also predicted that his party could either win 10 seats or more than 150 seats in the Bihar polls.
The News18 Mega Exit Poll had predicted that Kishor would win between 0-5 seats. Matrize gave it 0-2 seats, People’s Insight 0-2, Chanakya 0, People’s Pulse 0-5, JVC Poll 0-1, Dainik Bhaskar 0 and PMARQ 1-4 seats. Only Peoples Pulse had projected that Jan Suraaj could secure nearly 10 per cent of the vote—an impressive outcome for a party contesting its first election.
Kishor’s Jan Suraaj movement, launched in 2022, started as a statewide outreach effort focused on “reimagining governance" in Bihar through grassroots involvement. Over the past two years, the initiative has developed into a political platform, conducting village-level meetings, padyatras, and consultations across various districts.
As per the latest early trends, the ruling alliance led by BJP and chief minister Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal United, and including smaller allies like Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party, has raced into a lead as predicted by exit polls that had forecast a comfortable majority.
