A magnitude 3.9 earthquake was reported in Los Angeles on Sunday night.
According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake struck at 10:13 pm, approximately 2 kilometers east-southeast of North Hollywood. The depth was reported to be about 15.3 kilometers.
The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed the earthquake and said that it was felt in downtown L.A. “At this time, LAFD is not entering earthquake mode,” stated the department on X.
Hundreds of earthquakes are recorded annually in the state, though many are minor, measuring just over a 3.0 magnitude. According to the California Earthquake Authority, California is home to over 500 active faults, with most residents living within 30 miles.
