Chinese Visa For Indians: In a significant development signalling improving bilateral ties, the Chinese Embassy in India has issued over 85,000 visas to “Indian friends" within three months till April 9 this year.
This comes amid Trump’s tariffs that have struck global markets, especially hitting China the hardest with 145% tariffs on Chinese imports. Recently, both the Indian and the Chinese governments have expressed willingness to boost cooperation in the fields of culture, tourism, and economy. China easing its travel policies is one step towards the destination.
“As of April 9, 2025, the Chinese Embassy and Consulates in India have issued more than 85,000 visas to Indian citizens travelling to China this year. Welcome more Indian friends to visit China, experience an open, safe, vibrant, sincere and friendly China," Chinese Ambassador Xu Feihong posted on X.
Who Are Among Travellers To China?
A major chunk of these 85,000 travellers from India to China are students, business professionals, and tourists.
Among the visitors are also government officials, medical staff, and attendees of international conferences or academic events.
China Relaxes Visa Norms For Indians
In a move to attract more Indians into the country, China has relaxed visa norms.
No need for online appointment: Indians do not need to book online appointments at the visa centres. They can now directly submit their applications on working days without any online bookings.
Biometric exemption rule: Those Indians travelling to China for a short trip are exempted from getting their biometric data fed – a move which significantly reduces time for visa processing.
Visa fee reduction: Indians can now get a Chinese visa at a much lower rate.
Faster approvals: Visas are now being approved more quickly, which helps both business and holiday travellers.
Chinese Visa Options Available For Indians
There are several visa options available for Indians to visit China.
Student ((X1/X2) Visa, Work (Z) Visa, Business (M) Visa, Tourist (L) Visa and Family (Q) Visa.
Indians willing to travel to China can apply for a visa through the Chinese Visa Application Service Centres (CVASC) in major cities such as New Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai.
