Delhi Assembly Elections LIVE: A high-decibel Delhi poll campaign is underway ahead of the February 5 voting day, as part of which the political parties are hitting the ground and taking their vision to the people.
AAP’s campaign was hit by a massive controversy after party chief Arvind Kejriwal claimed that Haryana was contaminating the Yamuna river with “poison” before the water entered Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi slammed him for his remarks, stating that he himself, along with other residents of the city and top officials drink the same water.
The Election Commission of India had sought a response from Kejriwal on his remark by 8 pm on Wednesday, replying to which the AAP chief said that the raw water received from the neighbouring state was “highly contaminated and extremely poisonous” for human health.

More than 860 cases of alleged violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) have been registered ahead of the February 5 Delhi Assembly polls, an official said on Thursday.
The cases were lodged between January 7, when the MCC came into force, and January 29.
A total of 27,551 people have been arrested during this period under various legal provisions, including those under the Excise Act, according to a statement.

Rebel AAP MP Swati Maliwal on Thursday dumped garbage, that was spread on the roadside, outside Arvind Kejriwal’s residence. She loaded the garbage in a mini truck with a banner “Kejriwal Ka Kooda” (Kejriwal’s garbage) and unloaded it in front of the residence. She was seen being carried away by the police.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said that his state is providing clean water to Delhi but the Union Territory’s water storage is not clean.
“Delhi government is unable to provide clean water to the people of Delhi, their water storage is not cleaned,” he said.
This comes as heated politics is on display over the pollution in Yamuna, a fresh point of friction between between AAP and BJP ahead of the polls.

Arvind Kejriwal lashed out at Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar over his letter on Yamuna pollution row and alleged that he wants to secure a “post-retirement job”.
“No one has ruined democracy as much as he has. The language he has used is not the Election Commission’s job. He should contest the election from any seat in Delhi. We will send three bottles to Rajiv Kumar as well. I know they will arrest me in three days, let them do so, I am not afraid,” Kejriwal said.
Earlier today, the ECI expressed its dissatisfaction over Kejriwal’s response to the previous letter seeking explanation of his “poison” remark.
