CNN-News18 has accessed a harrowing medical report submitted to the Supreme Court of Pakistan, alleging that jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan has suffered irreversible vision loss due to “institutionalised medical neglect". The report, prepared by Advocate Salman Safdar, acting as a “friend of the court", suggests a calculated effort by the military establishment, led by General Asim Munir, to inflict permanent physical damage on the PTI founder without leaving traditional forensic evidence.
The ‘Silent’ Deterioration: A Medical Timeline
The seven-page report details a systematic denial of healthcare that began in late 2025. According to the document, Khan possessed perfect 6/6 vision in both eyes until October 2025. Shortly thereafter, he began reporting “persistent blurred and hazy vision" to the then-Jail Superintendent of Adiala Jail.
Ignored Complaints: For nearly three months, the report claims jail authorities ignored Khan’s repeated pleas for a specialist. Instead, he was provided only with basic eye drops that “failed to improve his condition".
The Sudden Collapse: This neglect culminated in a sudden and total loss of vision in his right eye. Only after the crisis became absolute was an ophthalmologist from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Dr Muhammad Arif, summoned to examine him.
The Diagnosis: Dr Arif diagnosed a blood clot (Central Retinal Vein Occlusion) that had already caused significant damage. Despite a subsequent emergency injection administered in late January 2026, the damage was largely irreversible.
The Current Status: Imran Khan has informed the court that he now retains a mere 15% vision in his right eye.
The Establishment’s ‘Pattern’
Top Indian intelligence sources suggest this development is consistent with a broader “pattern of silent elimination" utilised by the Pakistani military establishment. The strategy involves allowing a political figure’s health to deteriorate to a point of no return, then introducing medical aid only to prevent immediate death while ensuring the individual is permanently incapacitated.
Sources noted that a blood clot in the eye is a medical emergency requiring “urgent intervention". The deliberate three-month delay suggests that the establishment allowed the condition to worsen until the impairment became permanent, using “medical bureaucracy" as a weapon of slow-acting torture.
Beyond the Vision: Broad-Scale Neglect
The report to the Supreme Court further highlights that at 73 years of age, Imran Khan is being denied even basic geriatric and dental care. Despite repeated requests over the past two years, he has reportedly not been seen by a dentist or undergone regular blood tests, further fuelling fears of a “medical conspiracy".
In response to these “alarming" revelations, the Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, on February 12 ordered the immediate formation of an independent medical board to assess Khan’s health and granted him permission to speak with his sons in the UK.
