The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of threatening actor-turned-politician Vijay and attempting to pressure him politically over the latter’s CBI questioning in the Karur stampede case.
DMK leader TKS Elangovan said that the delay in granting a censor certificate to Vijay’s film Jana Nayagan was a deliberate attempt by the Centre to pressure him to come to their side ahead of the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly elections.
“They are threatening Vijay, and this is well known to the people. They have not given a censor certificate to Jana Nayagan and are deliberately delaying it. Their intention is to pressure Vijay to come to their side," Elangovan said as quoted by news agency ANI.

Responding to the DMK’s remarks, AIADMK spokesperson Kovai Satyan hit back, accusing the ruling party of double standards. “DMK had earlier filed a criminal case against Vijay to misuse him and take control over the party. Now they are shedding crocodile tears for Vijay appearing in front of the CBI," he said as quoted by the news agency.

CBI Summons Vijay In Karur Stampede Case
Meanwhile, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay appeared before the CBI in New Delhi on Monday in connection with the Karur stampede case. He was earlier questioned at the agency’s headquarters on January 12 for over six hours. Though he was asked to return the next day, the actor sought another date, citing the Pongal harvest festival.
Meanwhile, the CBI has not given a clean chit to anyone so far in the probe into the Karur stampede, which claimed 41 lives. The agency is examining evidence to determine whether charges of negligence can be established against the event organisers.
According to CBI sources, material submitted by the local administration suggesting lapses by the organisers is under scrutiny. Investigators are assessing whether there was negligence in planning, crowd management and coordination during the event.
