Donald Trump will be sworn in as the 47th President of the United States, together with Vice President-elect JD Vance, on Monday, January 20, 2025. The event will occur at the US Capitol in Washington D.C. beginning at 12 noon local time.

The 20th Amendment to the US Constitution has set January 20 as the traditional day for presidential inaugurations, although it happens to be a Sunday this year.

The Inauguration Day coincides with Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a federal holiday. For the first time in this century, a US president will take oath on a federal holiday. Traditionally, Inauguration Day is on January 20; if it coincides with a Sunday, it is moved to January 21. This year's overlap created some special scheduling issues.

What will happen on the day of the inauguration?

Swearing-in of the President and Vice President-elect Inaugural speech will be given by the president and vice president A parade at Pennsylvania Avenue will take place which will include around 7,500 participants from Washington, D.C.

Saturday, 18th January: Reception and Fireworks

Sunday, January 19: Honour and Rally

Arlington Cemetery Ceremony: The day will start with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, a solemn tribute to the fallen.

Make America Great Again Victory Rally: Trump will host a 3 p.m. EST rally at Washington's D.C.'s Capital One Arena. Free tickets, available on a first-come basis, require confirming attendance via text.

Candlelight Dinner: The evening will feature a formal dinner where Trump is expected to deliver a speech.

Monday, January 20: Inauguration Day

5 a.m.: Security screenings will open at the Mall for attendees.

Morning Service: A non-partisan service will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church in downtown Washington, D.C. Afterward, Donald and Melania Trump will meet President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden for tea at the White House.

9:30 a.m.: Live performances, including Carrie Underwood singing "America the Beautiful," on the West Lawn of the Capitol building.

12 noon: Trump will be sworn into office as President, an official transfer of power, during the swearing-in ceremony. He will give his inaugural address at this time.

After the Ceremony

The outgoing president and vice president have their farewell and ceremonial departure. Signing ceremony in the Senate chamber, where Trump will sign key documents. JCCIC Congressional Luncheon at the Capitol's Statuary Hall, where top officials are attending. Military review by the new president at the east front steps of the Capitol.

3 p.m.: The presidential parade will proceed along Pennsylvania Avenue to the White House, featuring military regiments, marching bands, and floats.

Evening Events: Trump will attend three inaugural balls: The Commander in Chief Ball, the Liberty Inaugural Ball, and the Starlight Ball.

Tuesday, January 21: Prayer Service

The inaugural events will conclude with a Prayer Service at 10 a.m. at the Washington Cathedral.

The inauguration ceremonies will be broadcast live on major news channels, including ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC, C SPAN, and Fox News. Live streaming is also available at different platforms.

How to Get Tickets

Tickets are available for the inauguration, and these were handed out earlier in the week to members of Congress so that they can make allocations for their constituents. The tickets are free, but for most now, it is too late because offices have closed their applications.
