Elon Musk tears into popular gamer amid Path of Exile criticism, leaks DMs

Elon Musk’s gaming reputation has recently come under fire after accusations of account boosting in the game Path of Exile 2. Following his live stream of the game, viewers raised suspicions that the Tesla CEO may have paid for account boosts to appear more skilled, noting his lack of familiarity with basic game mechanics. Musk, who ranked high in the game’s “hardcore” mode, was criticized for his inconsistent gameplay, leading to doubts about his abilities.

The controversy intensified when popular Twitch streamer Asmongold criticized Musk’s performance, suggesting that the Telsa CEO should prove his skills by playing through the game’s campaign with a facecam.

This angered Musk, who fired back in an unexpected manner and leaked private direct messages between himself and Asmongold.

The leaked messages suggested that Asmongold, despite portraying himself as an independent content creator, reportedly had to ask permission from his boss to express certain opinions.

Musk suggested that Asmongold wasn't truly his own man, adding fuel to the drama. "Asmon behaves like a maverick ‘independent.’ But in reality, has to ask his boss for permission before he can do anything," Musk tweeted.

The fallout continued as Musk unfollowed Asmongold on X (formerly Twitter), shortly before the streamer lost his blue checkmark. Though the exact reason for the checkmark’s removal remains unclear, many speculated that it was a direct consequence of Musk’s public anger over the criticism.

Musk’s supporters quickly chimed in, offering additional context to the situation. Some explained that Asmongold’s Twitch streams are edited by his editors for YouTube content, a fact that Asmongold himself has openly acknowledged. Musk, in a follow-up tweet, dismissed Asmongold’s gaming expertise, mocking him for being better at “caustic commentary” than actually playing games.

The clash between Musk and Asmongold sparked an intense debate on social media, drawing attention to Musk’s self-proclaimed gaming prowess.

Despite the ongoing debate, Musk has continued to assert that he is one of the top players in various role-playing games.
