Space X CEO and United States President Donald Trump’s biggest supporter Elon Musk engaged in a verbal feud with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman after the announcement of the Stargate artificial intelligence infrastructure project, which is being backed by the president.
The latest clash between the two tech billionaires will now test the influence that Musk exerts on the new president.
On Tuesday, Trump spoke about a $500 billion project, Stargate, which will be funded jointly by OpenAI, Oracle and Softbank.

The project has already begun to build data centres and electricity generation which will be needed for the fast-evolving AI technology’s development.
Trump said that it is “a resounding declaration of confidence in America’s potential" under his government and the project will have an initial private investment of $100 billion.
Elon Musk Attacks Sam Altman, Open AI CEO Calls Him ‘Wrong’
Musk, who is Trump’s closest ally and is now leading DOGE – which is a cost-cutting initiative of the government – raised questions over the value of the investment.
“They don’t actually have the money," said Musk, on his social media platform X. “SoftBank has well under $10B secured. I have that on good authority," he added.

Trump did not respond to Musk’s opinion on the matter. He was rather seen wishing a happy anniversary to his wife Melania on his own social network platform Truth Social.
Musk even shared the image of a crack pipe and wrote, “Leaked image of the research tool OpenAI used to come up with their $500 billion number for Stargate."
In a conciliatory tone, Altman replied to Musk, “I genuinely respect your accomplishments and think you are the most inspiring entrepreneur of our time."

this is great for the country. i realize what is great for the country isn’t always what’s optimal for your companies, but in your new role i hope you’ll mostly put 🇺🇸 first.

In his second response to the attack, Altman snidely wrote, “Wrong, as you surely know. want to come visit the first site already under way? this is great for the country. I realise what is great for the country isn’t always what’s optimal for your companies, but in your new role I hope you’ll mostly put 🇺🇸 first."
Later, Musk made another attack on Altman and called him a liar. He wrote on X, “Altman literally testified to Congress that he wouldn’t get OpenAI compensation and now he wants $10 billion! What a liar."
