US Embassy In Baghdad Targeted In Drone Attack

A fresh drone and rocket attack struck the US embassy in Baghdad early Tuesday, a security official said. An AFP journalist reported black smoke rising after an explosion inside the embassy complex, while air defences intercepted another drone.
The official said “three drones and four rockets" were used in the attack, with at least one drone crashing inside the compound. Hours earlier, air defences had already thwarted a separate rocket attack on the embassy.
Footage showed a drone detonating just feet from the compound, indicating multiple penetrations of C-RAM defence systems in a single evening.
Several explosions were reported in Baghdad on Monday. A second loud blast was heard late in the day as air defences intercepted another attack over the embassy, according to an AFP.
However, the type of attack remains unclear. It came shortly after a “projectile" struck a hotel in the heavily fortified Green Zone, which houses the US embassy, diplomatic missions, international institutions and government offices.
Oil facilities also targeted
Two drones targeted the Majnoon oil field in southern Iraq late Monday, according to the oil ministry.
Spokesperson Saheb Bazoun said one drone hit a telecommunications tower, but there was no damage. A second drone targeted offices of an American firm operating at the site, a security official confirmed.
Strike in UAE oil field
A drone strike also caused a fire at the Shah oil field in Abu Dhabi, authorities said. Officials said they were still responding to the fire and reported no injuries.
The Shah oil field, located about 230 kilometres south of Abu Dhabi city, has a production capacity of around 70,000 barrels of crude oil per day, according to ADNOC.
