Balkaur Singh, the father of late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, has announced that he will contest the 2027 state Assembly elections from the Mansa constituency. The announcement comes just days before the third death anniversary of his son, who was brutally murdered on May 29, 2022.
Balkaur Singh stated that his decision to enter politics is driven by his fight for justice for his son, Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, popularly known as Sidhu Moosewala. He expressed frustration that, despite the passage of time, many of the accused are still at large, and his family has not received justice.
Sidhu Moosewala’s father emphasised the need to protect the Constitution of India and restore law and order in Punjab. Recalling how his son was brutally murdered in broad daylight in Mansa, Balkaur Singh criticised the Punjab government and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for failing to take strong action to curb the rising crime across the state.
Balkaur Singh said his entry into politics would focus on seeking justice, restoring public safety, and raising his voice for people who are being silenced.
Balkaur Singh To Contest From Mansa
It is important to note that the Mansa seat holds symbolic significance as Moosewala himself contested from the same constituency on a Congress ticket in 2022, however, he lost the elections.
Meanwhile, social media is divided on the late singer’s father’s decision to contest the 2027 polls. While many users lauded Singh’s resilience, others accused him of leveraging his son’s fame for political mileage.
Balkaur Singh (60) and his wife, Charan Kaur (58), recently welcomed a baby boy on March 17 last year, nearly two years after Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead in Punjab’s Mansa district. The couple had opted for the In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) method.
