Google chief Pichai feels that their cloud business is benefiting from the years of investment in AI but still has to do a lot to challenge its rivals.

Google has its sights set on becoming an AI giant thanks to its advancement in the technology and how its customers are ready to deploy them for their businesses. Google Cloud seems to have milked the hype and demand for applications, and Google CEO Sundar Pichai recently pointed out the impact of the changing trends.

He believes the growth of Google’s Cloud business in the last 5 years is testament to its deep investments made in AI. “We’ve known for a while that AI will be the next technology to transform companies. Our investments in AI infrastructure and models help put us at the forefront of the AI platform shift,” Pichai was quoted saying during the event.

Google’s AI focus is multi-fold, as it looks to cater to consumers and enterprises simultaneously. But the challenges are similar, especially when its rivals have the upperhand. OpenAI, Microsoft, and Amazon offer their wide range of AI tools, and for the cloud business, Google is ranking below in third position which needs to be made up soon for the market to feel its importance.

Amazon has the clear lead with 31 percent share, while Microsoft has picked up 24 percent of the market tab, Google has 11 percent, as per the Q4 2023 data.

Google Cloud is adding new AI tools with its Workplace suite, which includes an AI video creator that it feels can help them start from scratch and execute the final project. Pichai mentions that Vertex AI which is a Google Cloud platform, already caters to 1 million developers but the road to leading the market is far away.

If that isn’t enough, Google also has Gemini in its armoury that is already being deployed on Pixel 8 phones via Gemini Nano AI model. Over here, Google faces a tough fight from Microsoft and OpenAI who continue to move at a rapid pace, and Google will have to cut down on the ‘unacceptable mistakes’ to come out on top in the next few years.
