Google Phone app needs a strong spam warning mechanism and we might see it coming to Pixel users soon.

Spam is a big issue and it is high time Google helps people warn
Google is implementing a new feature in its Phone app that will enhance the way calls are sorted on the device, as per reports. Numerous filters are allegedly introduced to separate calls according to their category, ranging from spam to unknown callers.
Instead of seeing a single stream of calls listing them all, users will now supposedly see calls divided into several categories. It is claimed that the feature was first made available to beta testers of the Phone app, but it has since been made available to all Android users.
The Phone app now includes a feature that categorises calls by type, such as all, missed, contacts, spam, and non-spam, according to a report by Android Authority. This update aims to simplify call management, allowing users to find specific callers more easily without sifting through irrelevant numbers. However, the app does not yet allow users to filter calls based on whether they are incoming or outgoing, offering only a limited set of criteria.
Initially, call filters were introduced in the Phone app’s 159.0.718038457-public beta-pixel2024 update last month. The feature was only available to beta users, with no information regarding a wider release. Now, as per the Android Authority report, the update is rolling out to all Android users. However, it is believed to be a server-side update, meaning its rollout may be gradual.
This tool is part of an expanding suite of features that the Mountain View-based technology company has been implementing in recent months to improve user comfort and lower the volume of spam calls it receives.
Among these is the Call Screen function on Pixel smartphones, which allows the agentic function to serve as a go-between for the caller and the recipient.
To assist the recipient in determining whether or not to answer the call, it can determine the caller’s name and the reason for the contact. It can also send the recipient a transcript of the conversation. When dealing with unknown numbers, they can identify the caller and filter out spam calls thanks to the reverse lookup tool.
