YouTube has agreed to pay $24.5 million to settle a lawsuit filed by US President Donald Trump over the suspension of his account in 2021. The suspension followed the Capitol riots, when major social media platforms removed Trump citing risks of incitement. The agreement brings an end to a protracted legal battle that tested the limits of platform accountability and political speech online.
$22 mn for Mall Trust
A striking element of the settlement is the allocation of $22 million to the Trust for the Mall. The funds will be earmarked for the construction of a new ballroom at the White House, styled after the grand reception halls of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.
