Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE) said on Friday it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Reintjes GmbH, a Germany company that designs and manufactures marine gearboxes. The move is aimed at strengthening collaboration in marine propulsion technology.

Under this agreement, GRSE will integrate Reintjes GmbH’s high-quality propulsion gear trains with selected engines on ships built at its shipyard.

This partnership is expected to enhance the propulsion performance of both defence warships and commercial vessels for domestic and international markets.

Reintjes GmbH is a pioneer in marine gearboxes and brings advanced expertise that will help GRSE achieve higher standards of propulsion efficiency in its shipbuilding projects.

GRSE is building a network of collaborations with global leaders to enhance its marine equipment portfolio. In June, it signed two agreements with two European entities.

This includes one with Sweden-based Berg Propulsion to bolster propulsion capabilities for government-focused projects, and another with Denmark-based SunStone, aimed at future collaboration on expedition cruise vessels.

In April, the company inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SWAN Defence and Heavy Industries Ltd to boost indigenous capabilities in commercial shipbuilding.

A leading defence public sector undertaking, GRSE derives 85% of its revenue from shipbuilding activities.

Shares of GRSE were trading at ₹2,578.00 on the NSE in the afternoon, down ₹33.90 or 1.30% from the day’s opening.
