Apple doesn't spend big on making the iPhones but it charges a premium
iPhone 16 Pro Max costs well over a lakh in markets like India but for Apple the cost to make the phone isn't that high. Here are the details.
The iPhone 16 Pro Max model in India starts from Rs 1.40 lakh this year but you can get it for a cheaper price if you live in the United States. However, Apple doesn’t spend a lot to make these premium iPhones that it sells to you for lakhs. We now have details about the cost incurred by Apple to make the iPhone 16 Pro Max model, which is now costlier than making the iPhone 15 Pro Max version from last year.
How Much Apple Spends To Make The iPhone 16 Pro Max
The details about the bills of materials of BoM of the iPhone 16 Pro Max come via TD Cowen, quoted by AppleInsider in its report. The overall cost of manufacturing the iPhone 16 Pro Max 256GB model for Apple has gone up marginally by around 3,000 compared to the 15 Pro Max model.
Apple is spending $485 (Rs 40,000 approx) to make the 16 Pro Max variant, while the company has invested $453 (Rs 37,000 approx) to make one iPhone 15 Pro Max model.
The higher production cost for the iPhone 16 Pro Max can be attributed to the new display and camera unit which is priced at $80 (Rs 6,640 approx) and takes the biggest chunk of the money on components for the new iPhone. The new camera control button on the 16 Pro Max costs $19 (Rs 1,570 approx), new RAM unit costs $17 (Rs 1,400 approx), and the new A18 Pro bionic chipset is priced at $45 (Rs 3,730 approx) for each model.
Total Cost On iPhone 16 Pro Max – Why You Pay Big?
Going by these component costs, and the actual selling price of $1,199 (Rs 99,500 approx) in the US or Rs 1.44 lakh in India, you can see that Apple is making a big profit by selling the new premium iPhones. Having said that, the company also incurs other costs like marketing, packaging, staff and the tech innovations added to the new model.
The new iPhone 16 Pro Max has a bigger 6.9-inch ProMotion OLED display, powered by the A18 Pro chipset. It continues to pack a triple camera system and the battery size has been beefed up to support its screen and power levels.
