An American woman has been placed on United Airlines' no-fly list after launching a racist attack on a celebrated wedding photographer and his Indian-American family on a shuttle bus at Los Angeles Airport. The woman, Karen, was caught on camera making vile racist comments towards photographer Pervez Taufiq and his family, including two children. She told Taufiq's kids to "shut up" and then launched into a racist attack saying "Your family is from India, you have no respect for the rules... Indians are crazy."
The incident began when the woman started making racist remarks toward Taufiq’s son while they were on the shuttle bus heading to their flight.
Matters escalated on the shuttle bus when she told the children to "shut up".
Taufiq started filming as the woman turned hostile, sticking up both middle fingers and shouting, "Your family is from India, you have no respect for the rules, you think you can push everyone... That’s what you think you are. You guys are f*****g crazy."
"Indian people are crazy? You told me to have some more curry, right?" Taufiq confronted her.
In response, the woman said, "I’m going to record your f****g tandoori a... your tandoori stinky a**."
When security was called to intervene, the woman defended her behaviour, claiming she was the victim.
"She [the airline employee] doesn’t care that I’m a racist, you’re racist towards me. I’m American," she said.
"So are we [American]," Taufiq replied.
However, the woman retorted, "You’re not American. Not originally, no. You’re from f*****g India."
When Taufiq explained he was born in the US, she dismissed him.
"No, you weren’t. That’s not on your passport." Taufiq asked sarcastically, "You want to see my passport? Is that going to make you happy?"
Other passengers stepped in favour of the photographer and defended him.
"She is out of line, she’s drunk, and we need her off the bus," one rider was seen telling a United Airlines employee.
"She’s been on the bus cussing and screaming, she started calling racist slurs at this nice family. They didn’t do anything. She doesn’t need to be on this bus," another added.
Following the incident, Taufiq shared the video on Instagram, expressing his anger and disbelief.
"My blood is boiling right now. I honestly can’t even believe this," Taufiq said. “[She was] telling my kids to shut up, and I lost it and said you don’t have a right to talk to my kids like that.”
United Airlines has since barred the woman from future flights.
