Mark Zuckerberg announced Meta’s plan to replace traditional fact-checkers with community notes and introduce a system similar to X’s ‘community notes’. In a video shared on Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg stated that Meta would return to its “roots" by focusing on “simplifying policies and restoring free expression" across its platforms.
The Meta CEO then said that the company would “get rid of fact-checkers" and introduce “community notes similar to X" and the changes would first begin with the US.
This means Mark Zuckerberg is terminating the third-party fact-checking program in Meta in the United States.
News agency AFP in its report said the agency currently works in 26 languages with Facebook’s fact-checking program, in which Facebook pays to use fact-checks from around 80 organizations globally on its platform, WhatsApp and on Instagram.
Zuckerberg said the recent US elections felt like “a cultural tipping point towards, once again, prioritizing free speech."
