Iran is reportedly planning to open a clinic specifically for women who defy the country’s mandatory hijab law, which requires women to cover their heads in public. Mehri Talebi Darestani, the head of the Women and Family Department of the Tehran Headquarters for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, told Iranian news outlets that Iran will be opening soon a series of “hijab removal treatment clinics".

These clinics will offer “scientific and psychological treatment for hijab removal" to women.

Iran has seen massive protests in recent years, including the 2022-2023 Mahsa Amini protests, where women have called for removal of moral policing and assault by the morality police whenever they spot women not covering their heads properly.

“The establishment of this centre will be for the scientific and psychological treatment of removing the hijab, specifically for the teenage generation, young adults, and women seeking social and Islamic identity and visiting this centre is optional," Talebi said, according to the Iran .

The Women and Family Department at Tehran’s Headquarters for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice operates under the direct authority of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. This organisation is tasked with defining and enforcing strict religious regulations across Iran, particularly those governing women’s attire.
