Chris Martin’s attempt at a message of inclusivity during Coldplay’s Wembley concert drew sharp criticism from Yaron Samid, an Israeli-American technology entrepreneur and longtime fan of the band, who accused the singer of showing prejudice against Israelis.

The controversy erupted when Chris Martin invited two women, Avia and Tal, onto the stage at the Coldplay concert. After the pair said they were from Israel, the audience reacted with a mix of boos and cheers. Looking visibly uneasy, Chris Martin addressed the crowd, saying, “I’m treating them as equal humans on earth, regardless of where you come from or don’t come from."

In a further remark that divided opinion, Chris Martin added, “Although it’s controversial maybe, I also want to welcome people in the audience from Palestine because… out of the belief that we’re all equal humans."

‘A Tactless Misstep’

Yaron Samid, who said he and his wife have been devoted Coldplay fans for over two decades and have travelled globally to attend their concerts, described Chris Martin’s comment as deeply painful.

In a statement posted online, he called the moment “especially hurtful" and a “tactless misstep" that alienated some of Coldplay’s most loyal supporters.

“You’re better than this. Or at least I thought so," Yaron Samid wrote, urging Chris Martin to reflect on his words. He argued that the singer, whom he had always admired as “a kind person using music to unite people," appeared to show “growing prejudice against Israeli people."

Yaron Samid also highlighted the suffering endured by Israelis amid years of conflict, saying many had lived through brutal violence and continue to face daily hardships. He stressed that remarks like Chris Martin’s risk overlooking that reality and diminishing the pain of victims.

Although, some fans praised Chris Martin for his inclusive tone. Coldplay has not issued an official response.
