Clippers coach Tyronn Lue urged his team to “stay the course” despite their recent skid. Harden responded with a dominant performance, shooting 14-of-24 from the field, 6-of-13 from three, and 16-of-20 from the free-throw line. His 50-point game is the eighth in Clipper’s franchise history and the first since Lou Williams scored 50 against Golden State in 2018.
When asked about the toll such performances take on his body, Harden’s responded, “No, I can do it. It’s not my first time. If it’s someone’s first time, it takes a lot of energy. For me, it’s just understanding the game."
Former President Barack Obama also attended the game. Harden jokingly credited that Obama might be the motivation behind his 50-point outburst:
"I wanted my picture with the President after the game, but he left. I guess he wanted to beat traffic," Harden said. "We’ve got a pretty cool relationship. We’ve met a few times. It’s awesome to see him at the game. He’s probably the reason I played so well."
