Tens of thousands protested in Kathmandu on Monday against a government ban on major social media platforms, including Facebook, X and YouTube, for not registering under state rules. Demonstrators stormed barricades in New Baneswar, surrounded Parliament and forced riot police to retreat. Security forces responded with tear gas and water cannons. One person was killed and 80 injured, including two journalists.
