Maharashtra New CM Live Updates: Devendra Fadnavis has been elected BJP’s Legislative Party leader in the party’s key meeting and is effectively the next Chief Minister of Maharashtra.

With his place set as the Chief Minister, Fadnavis met Eknath Shinde at 2 PM at Varsha bungalow along with Ajit Pawar.

The discussion revolved around the next steps, the allocation of cabinet portfolios, and finalising the list of leaders taking the oath. The three leaders also addressed reporters from the Raj Bhawan.

In the recently held state assembly polls, the Mahayuti alliance won 230 of the 288 assembly seats. The BJP led with 132 seats, while the Shiv Sena got 57 and NCP 41 seats.

There were reports that caretaker CM Eknath Shinde had conveyed his displeasure at not being given a second chance as CM by retreating to his village Dare in Satara district, but he attributed the visit to a need for rest after a hectic election campaign.
