The number of men opting for cosmetic procedures worldwide has almost doubled in less than a decade, highlighting a major shift in attitudes toward aesthetic medicine, new industry data released on Thursday, reported by AFP.

According to figures from the Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the number of surgical cosmetic procedures performed on men rose by 95 per cent between 2018 and 2024. Over the same period, non-surgical treatments including injections, laser therapies and chemical peels surged by an even sharper 116 per cent.

By comparison, cosmetic surgery among women grew by 59 per cent, while non-surgical treatments increased by 55 per cent during the same timeframe.

The data was presented at the cosmetic medicine industry’s annual conference organised by IMCAS in Paris. Analysts said the trend is particularly strong among younger men, as well as in the Middle East and Latin America.

“This reflects a profound transformation of social norms and a growing acceptance of cosmetic procedures by men," market analysis presented at the conference noted. It also highlighted that Generation Z and Millennials are turning to aesthetic medicine much earlier than previous generations.

Despite the rapid growth, men still account for only 16 per cent of all cosmetic procedures globally, underlining that women remain the dominant consumers in the sector.

“We have truly entered a consumer-driven approach to aesthetics," said Laurent Brones, an IMCAS economic expert, adding that cosmetic medicine was once viewed as elitist just a decade or two ago.

The United States continues to dominate the global cosmetic market, accounting for around 45 per cent of worldwide demand in 2025. It also leads in non-surgical procedures, representing 56 per cent of global demand for botox, which is commonly used to temporarily reduce wrinkles.

However, growth in the US market is expected to slow to around five per cent annually by 2030. In contrast, cosmetic procedures in the Asia-Pacific region are projected to grow at a faster pace of about seven per cent a year, signalling a shift in future market momentum.
