US President-elect Donald Trump on Sunday (local time) questioned outgoing President Joe Biden’s decision to pardon his son Hunter in gun crime and tax evasion convictions, and called his step a “miscarriage of Justice".

“Does the Pardon given by Joe to Hunter include the J-6 Hostages, who have now been imprisoned for years? Such an abuse and miscarriage of Justice," Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social.

What Is ‘J6 Hostages’?

The term “J6 hostages" refers to the people who were locked up for their involvement in the January 6, 2021, Capitol Hill riots. Trump and his supporters have labelled them as “hostages" claiming that they were acting in a peaceful and patriotic manner.

It has been speculated that Trump, after taking over as the President in January, will issue a pardon for all the imprisoned persons who were put behind bars for their role in the siege of Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021, after he lost the presidential race against Joe Biden in 2020.

Biden Pardons Son Hunter

Biden, in his last weeks as President at the White House, pardoned his son Hunter on Sunday on the gun crime and tax convictions. He claimed that Hunter was singled out in the case as he was his son.

“Today, I signed a pardon for my son Hunter," Biden said in a statement on Sunday night. “It is a full and unconditional pardon," a copy of the executive grant of clemency said.

Trump, when he assumes office, does not have the authority to revoke this official clemency grant.

Hunter was convicted earlier this year on federal gun and tax evasion charges. He was about to appear in Delon, California soon to potentially face lengthy prison sentences.

Notably, Biden, with the pardon move, deviated from his words that he would neither pardon nor commute his son’s sentence. He had made this statement publically and repeatedly.

Biden said that he has always said he would never interfere with the Justice Department’s decision-making since his first day in office. “…and I kept my word even as I have watched my son being selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted," he said.
