Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Tuesday that he plans to visit the United States later this month, following an invitation from President Donald Trump to meet at the White House on September 29, reported Reuters. Netanyahu is scheduled to address the United Nations General Assembly in New York later in the month.

The Prime Minister made the announcement during an economic press conference, responding to reports that his office had formally requested the meeting.

Netanyahu said the invitation was extended during a phone call with Trump on Monday. He also revealed that he has had several “good" conversations with the US president since Israel’s recent strike targeting Hamas leaders in Qatar.

This upcoming meeting will mark the fourth between Netanyahu and Trump since the start of the president’s second term.

When asked whether he had informed Trump prior to the strike in Qatar, Netanyahu reiterated that the White House’s account of events was “correct" and emphasised that Israel acted independently and was solely responsible for the operation.
