Shamsud-Din Jabbar had carried out a truck attack in New Orleans on the New Year's Day, killing at least 14 people and leaving dozens injured.

The man who carried out the truck attack in New Orleans on New Year’s Day killing 14 people visited the city two before and recorded video of the streets with hands-free glasses, an FBI official said on Sunday.

Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the US military personnel, had launched the attack on the people in the busy market. The incident was termed an act of terrorism by the FBI.

Jabbar had traveled to New Orleans ahead of the attack on October 31 and November 10.

Lyonel Myrthil, FBI special agent in charge of the New Orleans Field Office, said the video shows the suspect riding through the French Quarter on a bicycle wearing “meta glasses" that are capable of recording or livestreaming.

A video recorded using smart glasses was released on Sunday afternoon, offering a glimpse into the perspective of Shamsud-Din Jabbar as he rode a bicycle through the French Quarter, including Bourbon Street. The footage shows him navigating several streets, glancing left and right.

Another segment from the smart glasses reveals Jabbar inside a home, where he looks at himself in a mirror. He is wearing a t-shirt bearing the phrase, “It all starts with VMware vSphere," referencing a cloud computing service.

Authorities also confirmed that Jabbar traveled to Cairo, Egypt, and Ontario, Canada, before the attack. However, Deputy Assistant Director Christopher Raia stated at a press conference that it remains unclear whether these trips are connected to the incident.

Myrthil, another official, elaborated that the suspect visited Cairo during the summer of 2023 and traveled to Canada a few days later. “Our agents are working to determine where he went, who he interacted with, and how those trips may or may not be linked to his actions here," Myrthil said.
