Oppo Find X8 Pro is the first flagship from the brand in India after missing out in the last few years.

Oppo has introduced its new Find X flagship series in India

Oppo has stayed away from the flagship arena in the Indian market, so when the news came out that the Find X8 series will be coming to our shores this year, excitement was understandable. Oppo has shown its imaging prowess over the years and reading about the Find X models from the global media suggested we were missing out on something unique.

Finally, we have got the Find X8 models, and a chance to use the Find X8 Pro with its versatile camera setup and other premium features. The Oppo Find X8 Pro is priced at Rs 99,999 and you get it in a single model in the country. Does the excitement around the Find X8 Pro convert in real life and does its camera really match up to the best? The answer follows.

Deceiving Looks

Oppo generally makes some eye-catching devices but the Find X8 Pro in the grey variant looks deceptively underwhelming. No, it doesn’t look bad, but the subtlety might appeal to some, not everyone. Premium phones tend to catch your eye with their looks and finishing, and while the Find X8 Pro manages to impress with the latter, we’re not so sure about the former this time around. The back panel gets frosted glass finish and the grey colour does catch smudges easily and it is visible.

Having said that, the weight distribution gives you the right balance between its weight and size. The overall dimensions can be termed unwieldy but most people will find it easy to use the phone in one hand, something that we were also able to do.

The aluminium frame brings further solidity to the device and having both IP68 and IP69 rating gives you peace of mind even if high-pressure water spills on the phone.

The MediaTek Power Shines

Oppo decided to use the new MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset for its flagship devices and many were not sure about this call. But using the phone and the hardware tells you the real story. It was hardly surprising to see the Dimensity SoC perform as admirably as it did without breaking a sweat and tearing up the temperature charts to give discomfort. The gaming performance does not suffer at the highest graphics settings and other daily tasks are easily handled.

The benchmark scores showed us the potential of this chipset and how it can give the new Snapdragon 8 Elite a tough flagship fight. MediaTek is no slouch and its performance gains with the Dimensity 9400 show that Oppo hasn’t made a mistake by going in this route.

Bright Screen Let Down In Some Corners

The Find X8 Pro features a large 6.78-inch AMOLED LTPO panel which means it delivers adaptive refresh rate up to 120Hz on the screen. The brightness levels are quite good on the panel, and colour reproduction is crisp which makes it ideal for watching shows on the move.

The screen durability does have some question marks as Oppo has gone with the Corning Gorilla Glass 7i variant which is slightly lower than the Glass Victus series. The bezels on the screen are not very prominent and the front camera in the punch hole blends nicely into the display.

Cameras Get You Excited

Yes, the Find X8 Pro has a compelling set of cameras that are versatile, potent and effective. The quad-rear setup gives you 50MP sensors of different nature and the results are quite good in most conditions. The regular sensor clicks clear and detailed images in daylight, but the low light imaging could improve with more enhancements.

The periscope telephoto lens shines in its strong areas and the images see no loss in detail and the colours are also consistent. Going up to 6x on this lens really shows some of the aspects missing from other flagship phones in this category. It even has the quick button like the new iPhone 16 series, which uses haptic motors to feed commands like open camera and zoom-in to the sensor.

The ultrawide lens is also offering crisp details without any loss in the colour tones. The low light quality did feel a little below the level of these sensors and Oppo can surely fix that up with some tweaks. Having said that, it is not a deal breaker.

The OS Experience

Oppo’s ColorOS 15 version is based on Android 15 and there is a lot to like about the fluidity of the interface and the customisation it offers. However, for a phone costing around Rs 1 lakh, we didn’t like seeing so many third-party apps preloaded on the device.

You get apps like LinkedIn, Myntra, Netflix, Facebook and Snapchat out of the box on the Find X8 Pro and other Oppo suite of apps along with the Google apps. Not ideal for a premium device, especially when some of these apps show pop-up alerts which can be annoying.

The company does promise 5 years of OS upgrades and 6 years of security updates, so that’s definitely a good move. You get a whole range of AI features like AI summaries, AI Studio to create personalised images, that we first saw on the Reno 12 series. The Find X8 Pro also supports Circle to Search from Google and let you use Gemini as the default assistant.

The Reliable Machine

Oppo has loaded the Find X8 Pro with a large 5,910mAh battery and its overall performance was quite good. We got a PC Mark score of over 16 hours which is one of the best we have come across and expect similar levels from the new range of flagship chipsets over the next 12 months.

Even in real time usage, the Find X8 Pro offers over 8 hours of screen on time which means normal users can easily get the phone to last for more than a day without any charging anxiety creeping in thanks to the 80W wired charging speed supported out of the box.

Oppo Find X8 Pro is a compelling flagship device with a powerful hardware and versatile camera setup. The OS is fluid but not without its issues and the battery life should keep you happy. But the flagship battle has just started and we’ll be seeing more action in the coming weeks which should excite the consumers.
