Oregon authorities are searching for Dane Paulsen, a 2-year-old boy last seen playing in the residence's front yard. His parents lost track of him, prompting a large-scale search operation led by the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office.
According to a statement from the Sheriff's office, Dane went missing around 4:25 p.m. on Saturday. Emergency personnel, including firefighters, police, and search teams, began canvassing the property and surrounding areas. Drones with thermal imaging were also deployed.
By Sunday, the search efforts were widened to a region north of Siletz, along the Siletz River. Specialized teams, such as divers, search dogs, and boats, were employed to search water bodies and rugged terrains. Officials asked volunteers to stay away from the main search area to avoid interfering with operations.
According to CNN, AP Close to 300 individuals have participated in the operation. Officials had searched 382 acres and over 283 miles in their efforts to locate Dane.
No criminal activity
In the first instance, officials searched a car and a male driver reported near Dane's residence at the time of his disappearance. However, by Sunday night, officials assured that they were "no longer a point of interest."
An Amber Alert has not been issued as Dane's case does not qualify. Authorities have stated that foul play is not suspected at this point.
Officials characterize Dane as "friendly and fearless." He is also not afraid of strangers and has a strong affinity for water and cars. Nevertheless, he is unable to swim, which is a concern regarding his safety.
