The US Department of Defence has asked the White House to approve a more than $200 billion request to the US Congress to fund the ongoing war against Iran in the Middle East, the Washington Post reported, citing a senior official from the White House.

The development drew sharp criticism from Iranian officials, as Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi mocked the United States for the alleged mounting expenditures due to the war. He said that US citizens have to bear the cost because of the authorities' "Israel first" mentality.
