Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday extended his greetings to Bangladesh chief adviser Muhammad Yunus on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, amid strained relations between the two countries over atrocities against religious minorities.

In his letter, PM Modi wrote, “As the blessed month of Ramadan comes to a close, I take this moment to extend warm greetings and felicitations to you and the people of Bangladesh on the joyous occasion of the festival of Eid al-Fitr."

“Over the holy month, 200 million Indians of Islamic faith joined their brothers and sisters across the world in spending pious time in fasting and prayer. The joyous occasion of Eid al-Fitr is a time of celebration, reflection, gratitude and unity. It reminds us of the values of compassion, generosity and solidarity that bind us together as nations and as members of the global community," he added.

Modi further wished for peace, harmony, health and happiness for the world and expressed hope for the friendship between India and Bangladesh to grow stronger.

This letter came days after the Prime Minister wrote to Yunus on Thursday, extending wishes on ‘ Day of Bangladesh’, while also affirming commitment to advancing the partnership between the two nations based on “mutual sensitivity to each other’s concerns".

“Excellency, I extend my felicitations to you and the people of Bangladesh on the occasion of the Day of Bangladesh, a testament to our shared history and sacrifices that have built our bilateral partnership, with the spirit of the Liberation War guiding our flourishing relationship across multiple domains, bringing tangible benefits to our peoples," he wrote in a letter to Yunus.
