Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to visit India and the dates for the high-profile visit will be announced early next year, Kremlin said on Monday.

Putin, who has not travelled much internationally since the beginning of the Ukraine war, will embark on a visit to India as part of an agreement to hold meeting once a year.

Kremlin On PM Modi-Putin Meeting

“Our leaders have an agreement to hold meetings once a year. This time, it’s our turn," Kremlin Aide Yury Ushakov said at a briefing.

“We received Mr. Modi’s invitation and we will certainly consider it positively," he added.

Ushakov said that the tentative dates for the Russian President’s visit will be decided in early 2025.

The proposed meeting between the two leaders will be on the back of a series of meetings lately in which PM Modi and Putin met and held discussions over a range of issues.

Both leaders maintain regular contact, holding telephonic conversations once every couple of months. PM Modi and Putin have also held several in-person meetings, particularly on the sidelines of international events.

In July, PM Modi made a two-day visit to Moscow to take part in the 22nd Russia-India Summit. In October, the Prime Minister visited Kazan for the BRICS Summit where both leaders met in a bilateral meeting.
