The annual Fte de la Musique celebrations in France descended into chaos overnight, with reports of two women being raped, and several others allegedly stabbed with syringes, alongside widespread violence, mass arrests, and street disorder during one of the country’s largest public festivals.

According to a report by the Daily Mail, which referred to eyewitness accounts, the nationwide street music festival—attended by millions including large numbers of international visitors—saw multiple serious incidents of violence erupt across several cities, particularly in Paris. Authorities confirmed that hundreds of arrests were made as police responded to disturbances throughout the night.

One of the most alarming allegations involved so-called needle spiking incidents, where women reportedly felt sudden pricks from syringes in crowded areas. Some victims were taken to hospital for medical evaluation, including one woman who reportedly lost consciousness after being pricked on Boulevard de la Madeleine and was rushed for emergency treatment. Officials said investigations were underway to determine whether any substances had been injected.

Separately, police and media reports indicated that sexual assault complaints were filed during the event, including allegations of rape. Some reports suggested that younger individuals were among those affected, though authorities have not publicly confirmed all details and investigations remain ongoing.

Violence was also reported in multiple districts, including stabbings and group clashes. In central Paris areas such as Chtelet, witnesses described chaotic scenes involving street fights, panic, and overcrowding as crowds surged through narrow streets. Emergency services were deployed repeatedly to respond to injuries and disturbances.

A British witness, identified in reports as Steve, described the atmosphere as 'overcrowded and dangerous,' in conversation with the Daily Mail. He further said that fast-moving fights and panic created fears of a crowd crush. He said many attendees were unable to move safely through the streets as violence broke out in multiple pockets.

French authorities said around 243 people were arrested nationwide, including a significant number in Paris, as police and gendarmes worked through the night to restore order. Security forces were supported by large deployments, including thousands of officers and firefighters, alongside surveillance drones and helicopters.

Officials have defended the security arrangements, while critics have questioned whether adequate preventive measures were in place given prior warnings about crowd density and past incidents. Political debate has since intensified over event management and public safety at large-scale open-air gatherings.

Investigations into the alleged sexual assaults, syringe attacks, and stabbings are ongoing, and authorities have urged caution until forensic results confirm the exact nature of the incidents.
