Samsung recently created a buzz with reports suggesting that the company might launch its first-ever tri-fold smartphone next year. However, fresh reports indicate that Samsung users might have to wait a little longer to see the South Korean brand brings it triple-fold smartphone to the market.

According to tech analyst Ross Young, the device might now arrive in early 2026 as it has encountered some setbacks. Rumours say that its release will coincide with Apple's entry into the foldable phone market, which is expected around the same time.

As per Android Police, Samsung is also planning to release a budget version of the Galaxy Z Flip 7 along with the triple-fold smartphone.

Samsung is speculated to launch the triple fold smartphone to strengthen its position in the foldable smartphone market in the face of increasing competition from brands including Huawei, Xiaomi, and Honor. Huawei launched the world's first tri-fold smartphone, the Mate XT Ultimate Edition, in China this year.

The Mate XT features three screens that fold outward, exposing the displays when closed and increasing the risk of damage. Samsung's speculated design, according to Android Police, is believed to use an 'infolding' mechanism with two inward folds, protecting the display while closed and addressing durability issues.

Despite the competition, Samsung continues to stand as a top leader in the foldable smartphone market with its Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy X Flip series phones. Its tri-fold phone could offer a screen size of 9-10 inches, surpassing the 7.6-inch display of the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

Moreover, other big smartphone manufacturers like Xiaomi, Honor and Oppo are also rumoured to be working on their tri-fold smartphones.

In other news, Samsung is reportedly planning to launch its new flagship Galaxy S25 series which includes models like Galaxy S25, S25 Plus and the S25 Ultra in January 2025. The series will compete with the iPhone 16 and Pixel 9. The S25 series might also introduce the Android 15-based One UI 7 version which has been delayed till early 2025.
