A swarm of small earthquakes shook the San Francisco Bay Area on Sunday morning, rattling homes across the East Bay.

According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), at least eight quakes struck between 9:38 am (local time) and 9:41 am, all centred southeast of San Ramon, roughly 25 to 30 miles east of San Francisco.

The strongest measured magnitude 3.8, while the others ranged between 2.5 and 3.7 on the Richter scale. However, no damage has been reported.

Residents in San Ramon, Dublin, and Emeryville reported feeling brief shaking and mild rattling. Some described the tremors as a "quick, rolling motion," but emergency services confirmed no injuries or damage.

Earthquakes measuring above 2.5 magnitude are generally strong enough to be felt by people near the epicentre but are unlikely to cause structural damage. The Bay Area remains a seismically active region, lying along the Calaveras and Hayward fault lines, both of which are known for producing frequent minor tremors.

The latest swarm follows a notably active few months for the region. In September and October, several minor quakes rattled Berkeley, near the University of California campus.
