Spotify has a free plan but many users like to enjoy the premium benefits without paying. Well, they can't do it now.
Spotify is worried about the users who enjoy premium benefits without paying
Spotify stopped working for many users earlier this week and most of them were facing this issue because of the app they were using on their devices. Spotify offers a free version with ads for those who don’t want to pay for the premium services. But the streaming app comes in various modded versions that bypass the need to pay for the platform and still use the benefits of the premium plans.
Spotify Modded Apps Issue: Why Is It A Problem
Spotify realises the blatant case of privacy on the prowl and the platform would ideally like these people to use the original version which not only gives them the chance to earn more money but at least add more subscribers to its kitty.
Reports claim Spotify has acted on these free users by blocking their access to the platform, showing their playlist empty and not able to stream any song available. Most streaming companies are aware that any modified version of their apps can be misused in various ways, and it is vital that their access is blocked.
So, the platform has decided to close the doors on these modded apps at the API level to make sure that all these users eventually move to the official app that is available on the Play Store. While the benefits of using the modded apps are many, you also have the risk of getting hacked or exploited by these third-party apps that do not get the security assurance of an official app.
The last thing you want is to use these modded apps and bear the cost of these apps by giving unauthorised access to your device which can even allow the hackers to steal money and other personal data without raising an alarm.
Spotify has a wide range of premium plans, catering to individuals and families like the other music streaming apps. In markets like India, Spotify has a special freemium plan that is riddled with ads but lets you enjoy music albeit with some limitations.
