US President Donald Trump said he will be speaking to Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday to try to finalise a deal on TikTok, adding that the short-video platform is “very popular with young people." Donald Trump credited TikTok with helping him during his election campaign last year, saying the app had been an important tool in reaching voters.
He also stressed that he wanted the technological and financial benefits of TikTok to remain in the US, noting that he preferred it to be owned by American stakeholders.
“I would rather have it owned by straight, legitimate companies here," Donald Trump said.
No further details of the planned conversation with Xi Jinping were given by the US President.
