US special envoy Steve Witkoff will meet the chief of Ukraine’s national security council, Rustem Umerov, in Florida on Thursday for further talks to end the war with Russia, the White House said.

On Tuesday, Witkoff held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin for about five hours in Moscow. Later, the Kremlin said the talks “no compromise" on ending the war in Ukraine.

However, US President Donald Trump said the talks were “reasonably good" but it was too soon to say about the future as “it does take two to tango".

BBC quoted Putin saying that reaching a consensus would not be an “easy task", reportedly highlighting Moscow’s repeated demand that Ukrainian troops withdraw from the Donbas region – an area occupied by Russian forces.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybhia accused Putin of “wasting the world’s time" while Ukraine’s ambassador to the US said they do not “need to wait for promises from Russia".

“It is clear on both sides – in Ukraine and the United States – that Ukraine is committed to the result. Ukraine has invested a lot in the commitment to have a just and lasting peace in our country," ambassador Olga Stefanishyna said.

On Wednesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said “the world clearly feels that there is a real opportunity to end the war", but negotiations must be “backed by pressure on Russia".

Last month, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he expected talks with Ukrainian officials to yield “more progress" towards a deal to end the war with Russia.

“This is not just about peace deals. It’s about creating a pathway forward that leaves Ukraine sovereign, independent and prosperous and so we expect to make even more progress today," he said.

The US delegation also included special envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. The meeting was held near Miami at a private club, Shell Bay, developed by Witkoff’s real estate business.
