The US backed a 28-point peace plan for the Russia-Ukraine war, drawing from a Russian paper shared after Trump met Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The paper, a non-official communication, reportedly contained language that the Kremlin government had previously put forward at the negotiating table, including concessions that Ukraine had rejected such as ceding a chunk of its territory in the east, Reuters reported.

The US backed 28-point peace plan to end the nearly four year war between Russia-Ukraine, drew from a Russian-authored paper submitted to the Trump administration in October.

Reuters quoted sources as saying the Russians had shared the paper, which outlined Moscow’s conditions for ending the war, with senior US officials in mid-October, following a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Washington.

The 28-point peace plan was drafted in Washington and presented to Kyiv last week. According to CNN, the original draft was prepared by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff, with what officials described as strong input from Russia.

Zelenskyy told allies on Tuesday that Kyiv is prepared to “move forward" on the new US-backed framework to end the war with Russia, as President Donald Trump confirmed he would dispatch his special envoy to Moscow for talks with Vladimir Putin.

Speaking to leaders of the Coalition of the Willing – a group of around 30 nations supporting Ukraine – Zelenskyy said the outline prepared in Geneva by US and Ukrainian teams was now ready for the next stage.

“Ukraine has the framework developed by our teams in Geneva. That framework is on the table, and we’re ready to move forward together," he told the gathering, according to a copy of his speech, accessed by news agency AFP.

However, he noted there were still unresolved issues that required a direct conversation with Trump. “And I am ready to meet with President Trump – there are sensitive points to discuss, we have them still," Zelenskyy said.
