A violent brawl broke out in Israel’s Knesset on Monday between bereaved families of the hostages and victims of the Hamas-led attack on October 7, 2023 and the guards of the Israeli Parliament, shortly before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech.
A viral video from inside the Knesset showed guards shoving the victim’s families from the plenum guest gallery, where the relatives were to support a state inquiry into the government’s failures to prevent the Hamas attack. The situation escalated, with family members pushing the guards back.
An outraged relative was seen wrestling with a guard as others tried to pull them off each other. The guards eventually managed to push back the angry families and barred them from entering the guest gallery as Netanyahu was making his speech.

‘Is This How Bereaved Families Are Treated?’
Two people were reportedly injured in the clash, and Shimon Buskila, the father of one of the October 7 victims, fainted during the confrontation and required medical attention, reported the New York Post.
“Today I was broken … Is this how bereaved families are treated? With us on the floor? Is that our place?" the sobbing father was quoted as saying.
Meanwhile, Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana has called for an investigation over the guard’s use of force against the families, according to a parliament spokesperson. The brawl reportedly broke out when a guard informed angry relatives that only ten people could enter the gallery at a time.
The October Council, representing the survivors, former hostages and kin of the victims of the October 7 attack, have demanded a State Commission of Inquiry to probe the government’s failure to prevent the assault, which Netanyahu has refused to form.
The Israeli Prime Minister demanded an “objective, balanced, independent and non-politically biased" investigative committee instead of the State Commission to probe the attack, amid shouting from the opposition lawmakers.
Netanyahu Under Pressure
Meanwhile, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar broke ranks with Netanyahu, stating that his party would back the State Commission, while former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said the night was a catastrophe for Netanyahu’s weakening government.
Last month, the Israeli military admitted a ‘complete failure’ in preventing the October 7, 2023 attack by Hamas-led militants, an internal probe into the assault revealed.
The investigation by the Israeli military, which was released on Thursday, also stated that Hamas was able to carry out the deadliest attack in Israeli history because the much more powerful Israeli army misjudged the militant group’s intentions and underestimated its capabilities.
