Watch: Giant python swims through flooded road in Bali amid historic rain

Days of relentless rainfall, among the heaviest in recent memory, have unleashed severe flooding across Indonesia’s resort island of Bali, submerging neighbourhoods and forcing evacuations. Meanwhile, viral videos on social media show a massive python swimming through a flooded street.

The shocking footage emerged after more than 72 hours of near-continuous rain lashed southern parts of the tourist hotspot, swelling rivers, flooding homes and villas, and turning roads into murky waterways.

The clip shows a large python, estimated to be at least 6 ft-long gliding through a road completely engulfed by floodwaters.

Authorities said communities in low-lying districts faced some of the worst flooding in recent years, with parts of Badung Regency — including tourist hubs like Kuta, Legian, Seminyak and Canggu — and the provincial capital Denpasar heavily affected.

The extreme weather has also disrupted tourism across the popular holiday island. Guesthouses and villas were inundated, forcing some visitors to relocate while others cut short or altered travel plans.

Indonesia’s meteorology agency has issued ongoing extreme-weather alerts, cautioning that although the seasonal peak has passed, heavy downpours may persist into early April.

The current monsoon cycle has been unusually intense, with rains arriving earlier than normal and repeatedly triggering floods across Bali since late last year.
