Responding to US President Donald Trump's decision to halt US assistance to Ukraine in an attempt to pressure Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy into negotiations to end the war with Russia, Ukraine said that it will continue to cooperate with the US calmly in every possible way.

"We will continue to work with the US through all available channels in a calm manner," Ukraine Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said, also acknowledging that US military assistance was critical for Ukraine and that it had helped save thousands of lives.

Trump “paused” US assistance to Ukraine on Monday, and the White House said the order will remain in effect until Trump determines that Ukraine has demonstrated a commitment to peace negotiations with Russia.

Shmyhal, who was the first official from Kyiv to comment on the withdrawal of US support, however, mentioned that Ukrainian forces could continue to hold the situation together on the battlefield.

"Our military and the government have the capabilities, the tools, let's say, to maintain the situation on the front line. They are obviously not subject to disclosure," the Prime Minister said.
