Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has gained worldwide special fame since the Russian invasion of Ukraine. But he is not alone. His security head, Maksym Donets, has also drawn attention. He is even referred to by some as an icon and a 'sex symbol.'

Donets has guarded Zelensky since 2019 when Zelensky took the office as president. He was with him when Zelensky shared strong videos from the streets of Kyiv during the beginning of the war. From war zones to diplomatic meetings in the United States, Donets never left his side.

He joined Zelensky in areas affected by Russian shelling, such as Kyiv's outskirts, Kharkiv, Kherson, and Bakhmut. His visits to such hostile areas have made him a familiar face in Ukraine and worldwide.

Viral video sparks debate

Amid the ongoing war, a video of Donets went viral on social media platform X. The video claimed that he makes $8 million annually as Zelensky's bodyguard. The 80-second video also stated that Donets has a huge following on TikTok, with more than 112,000 followers.

The video claimed Donets made three big sacrifices in order to achieve where he is today. One, it alleged that he sacrificed having children so that he would remain near Zelensky. Two, it said that he imitated Zelensky's looks, mimicking his hair cut and beard. Three, it said that Donets plays a decoy during major events in order to keep the president safe from danger.

The video sparked mixed reactions online. Some users questioned the salary claims. One commented, "$8 million... he's doing more than just protection." Another wrote, "Good, he deserves it." Others wondered where the money was coming from.

Donets has been part of Zelensky’s security team since his presidential campaign in 2019. His official appointment raised some concerns at the time, as some believed Zelensky had close ties with businessman Ihor Kolomoisky. However, Donets’ loyalty and dedication to Zelensky have remained strong throughout the war.

Despite the rumors, there is no official confirmation of Donets earning such a high salary. What remains clear is that he plays a crucial role in protecting one of the world's most-watched leaders.
